How does Acomplia work to reduce the craving for food

How does acomplia work?

The body has its own system for rewarding people when they do what the body wants. That is why eating chocolate and other rich foods gives us “pleasure”. The brain is releasing dopamine and other chemicals to make us feel good and want to repeat the behavior. This is regulated by the cannabinoid system (as in the drug cannabis) and acomplia is designed to damp down the rewards so there is less incentive for people to eat excessively.

What do the clinical trials show?

There have been more than the usual number of clinical trials for acomplia, testing a wide range of different aspects to identify what benefits might flow from its use. The headlines are very encouraging. All the participants on the trials lose an average of 10% of their body weight and 3 inches from their waist measurements. So, no matter how you compare these simple numbers with those obtained by other drugs in their trials, acomplia consistently does better.

Does acomplia work on its own?

No drug produces weight loss on its own. The standard approach is for the drug to reduce or suppress appetite as part of a calorie-reduced diet and physical exercise program. Unless and until the pharmaceutical industry comes up with a magic bullet to melt fat in the body, losing weight will always come down to people burning more calories than they eat.

Are there any problems with acomplia?

Every prescription only drug has its problems and the decision whether to take it requires you to balance the benefits against the disadvantages. In this case, the disadvantage is easy to explain. Whether it is eating or smoking, acomplia helps people beat addictive behavior by taking some of the pleasure out of it. So, if you have a tendency to feel depressed, acomplia is not for you. But if you have no history of depression, you can safely take acomplia. The clinical trials have tested people for up to two years and the weight loss peaks between six and twelve months after starting the program, and is maintained until the end of the two year period — a fact that should help you stay happy and contented while you take this drug.

Should everyone take acomplia?

The manufacturer’s recommendation is that only people who are significantly overweight should use acomplia. For these purposes, the Body Mass Index is used. Anyone with a BMI of 30 and above can use acomplia but, in the range of 27 to 29, people should only consider acomplia when they already have indications of disease or disorder including diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease.
